CROP Hunger Walk

What are you doing on Sunday, October 6th at 2:00? Would you like a way to visit with friends, make NEW friends, enjoy the outdoors, get exercise AND change the world? Come walk with us in the CROP Hunger Walk to raise funds to fight hunger in our community and around the world. When you walk, you are walking in solidarity with people around the world who are walking daily for food, water and firewood. Solidarity is part of our Catholic Social Teaching.

Our local chapter of the CROP walk states on their informational flyer that the Midland Area CROP Hunger Walk has been a staple in the Midland Community for more than 50 years! In fact, it is one of the longest or THE longest running fundraising walk in the Midland area. Over the past 51 years, Midlander’s have raised well over $1.3 million dollars of which 25% of these funds have remained in the Midland Area to help fight hunger. The agencies who benefit from these funds are: Midland County Food Assistance Network, Midland’s Open Door and the Salvation Army Food Program. The remaining funds are distributed through Church World Service (CWS) who provide emergency assistance to people worldwide. CWS was here when the dams broke in 2021 by providing necessary cleaning and hygiene supplies to those in need. Once again this year, CWS is focusing on “Building Global Resilience” and highlighting how temperature increases, changes in rainfall patterns, and the slow-onset of climate change will affect, and in some cases devastate, vulnerable communities in the future. This is why our CROP Hunger Walk is so important.
