About the Movie

Set in 1889 New York City, Cabrini tells the powerful true story of Francesca Cabrini, an Italian immigrant who arrives in the midst of rampant disease, crime, and poverty. Despite facing numerous challenges—including a hostile mayor, her own poor health, and the barriers of being a woman who spoke broken English—Mother Cabrini embarks on a mission to secure housing and healthcare for vulnerable families.

Her dedication and faith transformed the lives of countless immigrants and underserved communities, and her work laid the foundation for social reform in America. Known for founding the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and becoming the first American saint, Mother Cabrini’s legacy is a testament to what faith in action can achieve.

Why Attend?

Cabrini is more than just a historical film—it is a story of faith, resilience, and the power of compassion in the face of overwhelming odds. Through watching and discussing this film, we will reflect on how Mother Cabrini’s life and mission serve as an enduring example of the Gospel’s call to love and serve the most vulnerable.

The film raises important themes that are still relevant today:

  • Social justice and reform
  • Women’s leadership in the Church
  • The power of faith to overcome obstacles
  • How we, too, can make a difference in our own communities

Join us as we explore these themes and be inspired by the life of a woman who changed the course of history through her unwavering faith and determination.

Discussion Following the Film

After each screening, we’ll have a group discussion where we can reflect on the film’s messages and consider how we might apply them to our lives. This will be a time for meaningful conversation and sharing insights as we learn from Mother Cabrini’s example.
